Located on the John Knox Village campus in Lee’s Summit, Mo., the Russell C. Flake Child Development Center (The Children's Village) offers much more than child care. We provide developmentally appropriate learning in an environment that is nurturing and enriching to your children – and you!
Our center is open to the children of John Knox Village associates, as well as families from the outside community.
The Children's Village is fully licensed and offers developmentally appropriate learning and childcare for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years on a full-time or part-time basis. Half-day schedules are available for children attending kindergarten. School bus pick-up and drop-off is provided for Westview Elementary. Our professional staff is made up of individuals who are committed to early childhood development and who have a genuine love for children. Each classroom is led by a teacher who has a degree in early childhood education or a closely related field. She, in turn, receives support from assistant teachers who have some early childhood education and previous child care experience. Each day, our staff works to engage our children in activities that nurture their cognitive, fine motor, gross motor, social, emotional and creative needs. Daily activities are carefully designed to enhance the developmental level of each child and to provide opportunities for creativity and exploration as well.
The Children's Village is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals. The voluntary accreditation system represents a mark of quality and sets professional standards for early childhood education programs that help families identify high-quality programs.
To become accredited, The Children's Village met 432 criteria outlined under 10 standards, each of which are designed to help us meet our mission of providing a quality education to young children.
